English
We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top
Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances
Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in
Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!

Right here right now (bang!)
Open fire like a bullet liner!
Right here right now (burn!)
Gonna kick your butt, get the fire!

Right here right now (bang!)
Open fire like a bullet liner!
Right here right now (burn!)

Among the dangerous pandemonium of the street, we open up a map of people – where will we go?
Violently coloured crows took it away and threw it away

Come on, open the eyes of your heart, just take now to the limit! (Yeah!)
We’ve got nothing to lose, so let’s go now!

We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top
Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances
Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in
Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!

Right here right now (bang!)
Open fire like a bullet liner!
Right here right now (burn!)

Those shadows that sneak up on us without a sound always throw us off balance
Say it and it’ll happen; a big wind is blowing, whipping everything into a frenzy

Take the sharp sword you brandish and use it to slice into your own future! (Yeah!)
There are no guarantees in sight, are there?!

Gonna kick your butt, get the fire!

We are fighting dreamers, I’ll do everything
Fighting dreamers, with my friends
Fighting dreamers, gonna aim high
Oli oli oli oh-!

We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top
Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances
Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in
Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!

(Don't forget your first impulse ever)
(Let's keep your adventurous ever)

Right here right now (bang!)

けまりとろにん

このやすみわとてもおもしろいです。私わたくさんにほんじんおならいます。

I was looking at hackey sack, and I found something interesting.

スポーツわしたいですか。

じゃあ、けまりわどうですか。けまりわ古いスポーツデス。It is similar to hackey sack. People don't play to win; no, the point of the game is to keep the ball in the air as long as possible. 六百年ぐらいにほんにけまりとしょかいする。

けまりis even shown in スリーブとアニメ(BleachやSoul Eater)。そして、日本にジョールジ   ブシわけまりおします。(when he was president)

また、今がつえいがかんに47 Ronin があります。このえいがおみたいです。It is based off of a true story (apparently, a national legend), and it seems とてもおもしりおですね。So far, all I know is that ronin are samurai without masters. Any more would ruin the story,ね。

じゃあ、また!

エイェシエルド にじゅいち

Hey everyone!こんにちわ!

In order to immerse myself more with Japanese, I have been watching this anime. I love the irony that I am watching a manga about an American sport! でもこのまんがわとてもいいです。せな、ひるま、もんた、とくりたとてもcool. It is called Eyeshield 21 because the main character is forced to wear an eyeshield over his face to protect his identity! If you want a manga/anime that's long, funny, and great to watch, I recommend this one! Eyeshield 21!

比較 - Comparison

McDonalds. American Music.

Sushi. Manga and Anime.

America is an amazing place. いいですね。In almost every subject it can be viewed as a superpower. でも let's look at culture. The very nature of America demands that there has to be an incredible, varied amount of culture. Indeed, we are often pioneers. Everywhere in the world, there is something that relates to America.  メキシコ から フランス まで something that is American が あります。

えも let's look at 日本, the land of the rising 日. From haikus to manga to sushi, we have been surrounded with 文化のにほんご. Have we even realized this? This is all coming from a country that has isolated itself for centuries. Pretty impressive.

This is not a battle, simply a comparison. It's cool to see how much Japan culture has spread through the world, even though there was once a time where they did not want to talk to anyone.

The more you know, the more you grow.

献身- Dedication

I have been studying Japanese for about two months now. And what I know is that I do not know that much.

Do not get me wrong. We have been taught a lot, and I loved every minute of it. The vocab that I knew before I took this class was limited to the random words that I picked up while watching subbed versions of anime. I have learned the vocab, the intonation, and even the culture. But it is still extremely hard for me to keep up in class. I never seem to say it right, or know enough, etc. But this will not defeat me; no, this will be motivation for me. I will simply have to try harder.

I believe that the main problem that I have is that I have not fully immersed myself in the language. Perhaps at a certain time studying has to stop and applying has to begin. This could explain why I feel a little overwhelmed even though I have spent time studying. More manga and more conversations with my friends will need to take place. The problem doesn't seem to be a lack of doing the activities as much as it is I simply need to do more of said activities.

My new goal for the rest of the semester is a hard one to decide. I feel that I am lacking in every area. Therefore, I will try to force myself to think in Japanese at random times. I want Japanese to be a second language; I want to be fluent in it. And the ultimate test of fluency, in my opinion, is being able to think in another language. Of course, to go about this many things will need to happen. I WILL make the study group. I WILL force myself to work harder. I WILL go out of my way to improve my speaking by watching anime and having conversations. I WILL listen to more Japanese music. The things that I tried to do earlier in the year will be done.

Of course, this will be hard. But I have two things behind me. I have a love of Japanese, and the knowledge of anime characters overcoming adversity. And of course, what other anime to signfy this than one that not only is debatably the most famous one in America, but one that signifies giving your all no matter what? That's right, the legendary DBZ, the great Dragon Ball Z.

This time, I'll show you two of the sons of Vegeta and Goku - Trunks (Vegeta's) on the right, Goten (Goku's) on the left.

If Japanese manga and anime did not entice you into taking the language, then you are probably one of the minority. Before I got into プリンストン  I prided myself on my knowledge of manga.

Coming into プリンストン, I have found that many people agree. So honestly, what am I doing that I haven't seen Attack on Titan yet? I even told my friend about it

Can we take some time here to applaud the people who don't take Japanese, but still                           watch manga? You gotta love it.

Honestly, though, watching the manga should help me with my にほんご. And also give me something to enjoy over あきやすみ. I am kind of excited, after hearing the hype behind it. Hopefully, when we return, I can talk about the show then.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

きょうに ユーツベを みません。アヴァタル テェ ラスト アイルベンデルを みません。

How can I describe this show? Awesome. スばらしい。Somehow, some people out there combined the best of what Japan and America had to offer and create this show that was outstanding. From the romance, to the action, to the adventure, to the laughs, to the tears, I stuck by this show. I mean, [spoiler alert] the good guy has to deal with tremendous pressure, the bad guy becomes the deuteragonist - and goes on to have the best character arc ever - and they manage to throw in an amazing blind fighter. And the humor is great: the cabbage man. Uncle Iroh. And Sokka. This show went on to have three epic seasons, a sequel and a huge following, and debatably - for what it did - the best. It was intense for a Nickelodeon show, drawing people from age 2 to age 20.

Is there a parallel to be made about this show and us? Perhaps. We live in a Western civilization, but we are learning about an eastern language. Similar to how the show combined American and Asian elements, we are trying to add an extra level to ourselves. If we combine these two, we will be much more than what we are now. Maybe this knowledge can inspire us to work harder.

Or maybe it will just make you watch the show. (Or in my case, re-watch it).

Does the Anime Club take requests? I think I have one...

Here are two videos that I found on Youtube. Just a little something to make sure you remember the awesomeness that we are striving for. Or something to convince you to watch the show. Eh. じゃまた!

P.S. The second video has kanji. While it is Chinese, since Japanese Kanji is based off of Chinese kanji, it is possible that this may help later on! Here are what they mean, from raven:

0:01 - strength/power (Toph)
0:02 - love/caring (Katara)
0:04 - courage/valor (Sokka)
0:05 - hero (Aang)
0:06 - humility (Zuko)
0:12 - water/ice
0:14 - earth/metal
0:18 - fire/lightning
chorus: (same throughout)
0:24 - luck
0:25 - skill
0:29 - pleasure
0:31 - pain
0:32 - remember the name
0:47 - determination
0:49 - fearless
0:50 - fighter (yeah Toph!)
0:53 - teamwork
0:57 - wicked
1:08 - distrust (poor Zuzu)
1:47 - Raven (the person that made the video)

P.P.S. There is a good chance that this show will come up in the future!
P.P.S. Please comment, whether or not you agree with me, or which video you liked the most, or whatever! I want to see what you guys think!

First Things First

こんいちわ。

Goal statement:

To me, first things come first. I feel as though to speak a language, I should better my vocabulary. Things like intonation and pitch, I believe, can come through trial and error. But studying vocabulary seems to be the best way to learn the language. However, I do realize that my word pitch and "flow" could be much better. I will try to work on that in the following weeks.

Activities:

So much to do, so little time. There are many things that I want to do. First, I would like to make a Japanese 101 study group. Secondly, I want to watch more anime and manga (shocker). I can't wait to tell my parents that I'm watching cartoons for Princeton University. But I also want to go to office hours consistently, and I want to make the Japanese table on Tuesdays a priority. I will also try to read the textbook and listen to the cd much more often.

It's been great talking to you! ジャまた。

P.S. I will try to post a pic of a cool anime/manga every day...I know we all love it. I've posted some pics previously; here is today's!

I'm Focused

http://hdw.eweb4.com/out/998120.html

Goals:
I want to be able to clearly speak Japanese and to be able to read it faster, easier, and more accurately

Activities:
Read the textbook as often as I can
Watch more anime; read more manga
Go to every Japanese table; go to office hours whenever the need arises, but at least once a week.

Reflections:
Went to my first language table
Spent at least 45 minutes practicing the Japanese
It would be beneficial to have a Japanese study group
Need to improve speed in reading
Need to memorize vocabulary more efficiently

I am so excited on what I have done, and on what I have left to do!

Why Japanese?

In my younger years, and through my high school career, I read a lot of manga and watched a lot of anime. As I spent more and more type delving through the interesting culture, I found myself falling in love not only with Japanese artwork, but also with the culture itself. But I never had a chance to take Japanese. Once I got into Princeton, I was presented with the first opportunity that I had to do a language that I loved. Luckily, I took the chance, and I have been happy with my choice.

We have just started, so I am still able to keep up with everything if I review it. But I am somewhat intimidated with not only by the upperclassmen and graduate students, but also by the amount of people who seem to have taken a foreign language before. In addition, I am confused why Japanese has three different alphabets. And the change from a Western language to an Eastern language is hard in the pronunciation aspect. However, as soon as I felt disappointed, my professor happened to show a manga on the screen, and I was reminded on why I fell in love with Japan. Besides, the culture and language of Japan is too cool not to be excited about it!

So, I will continue to try my best, 少しずつ.
